Mandap Size Guide: Standard Sizes for US Ballrooms

The most common reason a mandap order goes wrong is not style. It is size: a canopy that touches a chandelier, a base that crowds the front row, or a crate that will not fit the freight elevator. Measure these five things before you choose.
1. Usable ceiling height
Measure from the floor to the lowest thing hanging in the ceremony area, not to the ceiling itself. Chandeliers, sprinkler heads, projector mounts and air-wall tracks all reduce usable height. Leave about one foot of clearance above the top of the mandap so that fabric, flowers and lighting can be installed without touching anything.
Many hotel ballrooms look tall but have a lower pre-function or divided section. Ask the venue for the height of the exact section where the ceremony will be held.
2. Footprint
Standard mandaps are square, commonly from about 10 × 10 ft to 16 × 16 ft. A bigger footprint gives the priest, couple and family room to sit and perform rituals, but takes space from guest seating. Plan on the mandap and a few feet around it for photographers and the havan kund.
3. The aisle and sightlines
Allow a clear aisle for the processional. Pillars and florals that stand outside the main footprint can narrow the aisle. Open-sided designs keep sightlines clear for guests in the back rows.
4. Load-in path
Large pieces arrive in crates. Ask the venue about dock height, door widths, elevator size and any union or load-in rules. We give you crate dimensions and weight in advance so the venue can plan.
5. Venue rules
